Compensation and Pension managers have a difficult task on their hands defining the financial risk of employee disability on a post-employment basis. Through the use of medical assessments upon leaving the workforce, as well as post-retirement assessments, managers can better assess the financial exposure on any specific case. Differences of opinion between treating and assessing providers can be objectively resolved through this process leading to equitable agreements. Table of Contents Disability Retirement ExaminationsDisability retirement examinations are utilized when an employee has reached retirement age and is leaving employment or is taking early retirement due to medical issues. Should the employer wish to assess the health of the employee upon retirement, this medical evaluation provides an assessment to management as to the projected financial exposure post-employment.
Compensation and Pension ExaminationsCompensation and Pension examinations are provided by MCN in order to facilitate retirees’ claims due to occupational service-connected disabilities. This type of work requires MCN to have a substantial knowledge of our client’s insurance coverage, so that our consultants can determine if the patient’s physical or mental issues fall within the guidelines and time parameters of the policies. While Compensation and Pension examinations present a unique challenge, MCN has positioned itself to supply the resources needed in order to properly address these needs. Third Medical OpinionsMCN employs Third Medical Opinions when there are conflicting reports regarding a specific claim or case between two physicians. This provider acts as a “tie breaker”, between two attending physicians or between the attending physician and an Independent Evaluating Provider. These exams are often requested when there are collective bargaining employment groups involved and when it is necessary to make a final determinations on a claim.
Peer ReviewsClaims often raise questions regarding the delivery, appropriateness or necessity of medical services. When a face-to-face evaluation is not required or possible, consider MCN’s Peer Review services. MCN will compile complete medical histories, have a qualified physician consult and review all medial records and provide a comprehensive report. Depending on client protocols, MCN may ask that the physician contact the treating provider for further clarification in the case.
Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs)FCE’s are an invaluable tool in providing an objective and complete assessment of an employee’s current level of physical functioning. They can also be tailored to assess a specific diagnosis, physical impairment, or ability to perform the essential functions of a specific job. The results provide valuable additional objective evidence when used in conjunction with an Independent Medical Evaluation.
